Agentic Software explained

What is Agentic Software

Agentic software acts on your behalf within defined boundaries. It doesn't just generate text or respond to prompts. It reasons through multi-step tasks, makes decisions within policy guardrails, uses real tools and APIs, and escalates when it hits the limits of its authority.

A chatbot answers a question. An agent does something about it.

Three properties set agentic software apart from automation:

Why regulated industries need it now
