RTÉ News App
A native rewrite of the RTÉ News app, integrated with their real-time publishing pipeline and trusted by millions of readers across Ireland.
The brief
Marino is partnering with RTÉ, Ireland’s national broadcaster, to deliver a new high-performance RTÉ News app that integrates with their real-time publishing and content management systems.
The brief: rebuild the experience millions of readers rely on for breaking news, without disrupting the live service, without compromising on accessibility, and without adding latency between newsroom and reader.
The approach
We’re rebuilding the app natively on iOS and Android, with a shared content model that mirrors the newsroom’s editorial structure. Push notifications and live-blog primitives are first-class citizens, designed alongside the journalists who use them for live coverage of major events.
The integration with RTÉ’s content management and publishing systems is API-first, so editorial workflows and the reader experience can evolve independently. Every release ships through an automated pipeline with accessibility checks built in.

What we’re optimising for
- Speed to story. Time from publish to push, measured in seconds.
- Editorial control. Curation tools that match how the newsroom actually works.
- Accessibility. WCAG 2.2 AA verified, with the major Irish accessibility advocacy groups consulted in design.
- Resilience. Read-path designed to stay up during major news events when traffic spikes are highest.
