Ryanair, Native iOS & Android, on an aggressive timeline, with zero passenger disruption
Ryanair, Europe's largest airline, needed to migrate from a hybrid app to fully native iOS and Android, with hundreds of millions of passengers relying on the app and a hard summer deadline.
The brief
Ryanair, Europe’s largest airline, needed to migrate from a hybrid app to fully native iOS and Android. With an ambitious delivery timeline and hundreds of millions of passengers relying on the app, the stakes were high.
The goal
Deliver a native mobile app covering the full booking journey, flight search and payment processing through to boarding passes and extras. Speed was critical, with a hard summer deadline.
The solution
Our team embedded on-site at Ryanair, working in two-week agile sprints alongside their engineers. We built the core booking flows, integrated payment systems via RESTful APIs, and implemented automated testing with nightly builds.
The outcome
The app launched on time and users migrated quickly.
| Metric | Result |
|---|---|
| 400K+ | Boarding passes per day. We met the release deadline, and users quickly migrated to the new application. |
| 149M+ | Passengers per year. The application currently provides access for 149+ million passengers per year. |
Awards
The application was shortlisted for Private Sector Project of the Year at the annual Tech Excellence Awards in April 2016.
